Selective criticism confounds objective evaluation of case report on spinal manipulation and vertebral artery dissection
Abstract
Objective: The author, Steven Brown, responds to criticism (by Albertson et al.) of a recent case report by Romozzi et al. that described a patient who developed a vertebral artery dissection (VAD) after receiving spinal manipulative therapy (SMT).
SpringerLink
Romozzi et al.'s case involved a 25-year-old woman with a long history of migraine without aura. After SMT, her headache pattern changed: she developed longer, worse headaches that didn’t respond to usual treatments. Romozzi et al. proposed that the SMT triggered the VAD.
